Stacey Abrams Says Ex-Boyfriend Called Her "Too Ambitious," And Will Likely Run Again

Stacey Abrams, who recently lost the Georgia election to Governor Brian Kemp, revealed on actress Drew Barrymore’s talk show that a former love interest accused Abrams of being too ambitious and would end up alone. “So when I was in college, I fell in love with a boy who was mean to me.” She went on to explain, “Well, he broke up with me. He said that I was too ambitious, and wanted too many things, and I would end up alone and lonely.” Abrams got “really mad” and exacted her revenge by formulating a spreadsheet of her intended accomplishments. “I don’t know if he’s ever going to see it, but I’m—I’m doing okay.”

Abrams lost to Governor Kemp by nearly 300,000 votes, widening the gap of their first race in 2018, which separated them by 55,000 votes. Abrams refused to accept the results of the election and enjoyed being propped up by the media and fellow Democrats alike. Abrams was even selected to deliver the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address in 2019. Abrams became quite the celebrity, gracing the covers of magazines and scoring a role on Star Trek: Discovery as the earth’s president.

Abrams told Barrymore it was likely she’d run again, signaling cheers from Barrymore and the yellow-masked crowd. It certainly isn’t the first time Abrams spoke to a muzzled audience while unmasked. On the campaign trail, she was heavily criticized for a photo taken with a crowd of masked children.

Stacey Abrams deleted this tweeted photo after backlash.

Barrymore coddled Abrams’ election conspiracies, asking if she was going up against “tough men who don’t always play fair.”

Abrams laughed. “Well, if at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again. And if it doesn’t work, you try again.”

Abrams has reportedly had much financial trouble after the midterm elections, accumulating $1 million in debt, even though she raised more than $100 million. Her poor spending came into question after her 180 full-time staffers received their last paychecks one week after the election. In comparison, Kemp’s staff was paid through November and received bonuses. Abrams spent money on a “swag truck” and a barely used “hype house” for TikTok videos, which was eventually converted into an office.

Abrams’ political future likely isn’t over, nor is the fawning by the media and celebrities. As for Abrams’ love life, she told Gayle King, “If a guy realizes I’m out here and wants to drop me a note, I’m looking forward to meeting him.”

Even though Abrams was defeated in a blow-out, Democrats still credit her efforts of recruitment and Democrat registrations as groundwork for Senator Raphael Warnock’s victory. Regardless of her college ex-sweetheart’s words, Abrams is proud of her accomplishments on her spreadsheet.
