Avenatti and the Left's Identity Hypocrisy

Michael Avenatti came into some hot water when he was interviewed by Time Magazine and offered his opinion on what type of candidate Democrats would have to elect in 2020. “I think it better be a white male. When you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight.” He then added, “…Should they carry more weight? Absolutely not. But do they? Yes.”

I think it’s quite obvious that Avenatti is trying to pick off main contenders like Senator Cory Booker and Senator Kamala Harris and prop up himself. Politico titled a piece yesterday, “Avenatti quietly builds 2020 machine.” I’m not sure what has been “quiet” about the fame seeking lawyer that has been on CNN over 100 times. Democrats are angry, and many are making the mistake of believing that emulating Trump’s rough and tough nature is a winning strategy. It was for Trump, but not everybody is Trump, and not everybody runs against Hillary Clinton.

Everyone is giving Avenatti a hard time for his statement. He’s even walked it back (despite the transcript), but if we are to believe the victim hierarchy of the left, why is what he said actually a problem?

When Hillary lost the election, were we not flooded with excuse after excuse? Pollsters and pundits were foaming at the mouth in anticipation of Donald Trump going down in flames because of women rejecting his sexism. Instead, there was outrage and fury over the betrayal of white women. Van Jones called it a “whitelash”. Former First Lady Michelle Obama said, “Any woman that voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice.” At a Women in the World conference, a panelist came up with the idea that women couldn’t get beyond another woman being in the White House.

Does sexism play such a vital role in voting habits? If it’s not about the obscene amount of money spent, ground game, the amount of campaign stops, or your overall message…why would the Democrats select another woman? If Hillary Clinton is not president because of the dominate male patriarchy, why would they set themselves up to fail once again?

And if America is as racist as leftists would allow you to believe, why would they select a minority? I have found myself—many times—among a crowd of hysterical progressives utterly appalled by my belief that I am not oppressed. When Kanye West says—while sitting in the Oval Office in front of the most powerful man in the world—that racism can’t stop him, he’s scorned and mocked. Michael Eric Dyson and Al Sharpton would rather burden blacks with oppression mentality than encourage them to believe they are “more than conquerors”, biblical teachings these “men of God” should reflect on more often.

Now, I think the oppression Olympics is ridiculous. People of color have been achieving greatness in more perilous times than today. No one is denying racism exists (it comes from people of all races, backgrounds, and political affiliations), but to continuously appropriate off our ancestor’s pain to achieve a special victim status is wildly inappropriate. Obama was elected twice, and many of those people still turned around and voted for President Trump.

I don’t believe Avenatti’s claim that a white male’s words would carry more weight. I have a suspicion he doesn’t believe that either. However, if Democrats are going to continuously build on how racist and sexist America is, they should certainly heed to Avenatti’s advice and allow an “ally” to advocate on their behalf.
