Tlaib, Biden, and Other Officials Push Police Shooting Propaganda
/It’s horrible enough when a tragedy happens and inflames the public’s emotions. It’s shameful when a sitting US Congresswoman purposely fans those flames. Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 13th congressional district, has made inflammatory statements in the past. That doesn’t make recent comments regarding the shooting of Daunte Wright any less egregious.
Wright was fatally wounded after he was shot by a female officer, who mistakenly fired her gun instead of her taser. Daunte resisted arrest by fighting off officers and jumped back inside of his car. They tried to arrest him once they realized there was a warrant out for his arrest.
The bodycam footage is clear. The officer repeatedly yelled that she was going to fire her taser. There was clear shock and distress once she confessed to her partners that she shot him.
But Rep. Tlaib doesn’t believe that. She tweeted, “It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist.” She also called for “no more policing, incarceration, and militarization.” This is radical and idiotic.
Thankfully, and despite popular belief, police rarely murder unarmed black men. But when it happens, whether ruled justified or not, it’s a tragedy. Cops are not meant to be judge, jury, and executioner, but while tasked with preserving the common good, they’re forced to make life and death decisions. Normally, political pundits and social media activists would spend the next few weeks arguing whether force was excessive, whether the officer had reasonable fear, and so on. All of the oxygen for those sorts of conversations was sucked out of the room as soon as we learned this officer meant to fire a taser. Now, the conversation is negligence. Instead of a jury teeter-tottering about whether she should get off on a charge like Murder 2, we have a clear-cut case for manslaughter. She, of course, is still entitled to an investigation and a trial, but the world could unite and simply give this over to the justice system.
But nope! Women like Tlaib must sow racial division. It’s what she lives for, and she’s not alone. President Joe Biden also introduced the idea that it could be intentional. It could very well come out that it was, but it’s irresponsible for him to throw that out in the atmosphere.
The Attorney General of Minnesota is Keith Ellison, a political activist who arguably overcharged Derrek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. If Ellison or any other activists want to go argue intentional murder, it may blow back extraordinary in their faces. The former officer has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, but Wright’s family is demanding a stiffer charge.
Other conspiracies surrounded Mr. Wright’s death. BLM is spreading the narrative that he was killed over “air freshener,” alleging that was the reason he was pulled over. Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace helped to spread the propaganda. The official reason Wright was pulled over was expired tags.
Wright’s death has sparked protests and riots (though the media was angry at the police chief for calling it that).
Activists called for the defunding of police last year. In Minneapolis, that spectacularly backfired as citizens who needed police, reported lower response times. The city council had to backtrack and voted to grant them more money.
Citizens of Michigan’s 13th Congressional call the police when they are in need, and if Tlaib’s irresponsible rhetoric ever became policy, it would put their lives in jeopardy.
