Disney's "Cancel Culture" Doubled Standard

Caryn Johnson, famously known as Whoopi Goldberg, was suspended for two weeks from The View after claiming the Holocaust isn’t about race. Time will tell if two weeks will be the only punishment from ABC, but the world is noticing a bit of a double standard from Disney after stars like Gina Carrano, Rosanne Barr, and others were canned for controversial comments.

What did Whoopi do?

Whoopi Goldberg claimed on air that the Holocaust wasn’t about race, but rather man’s inhumanity to man. The panel pushed back against her commentary, and ABC had her go on Colbert’s show to clean things up, but that only made things worse. “But I thought it was a salient discussion because as a black person I think of race as being something that I can see. So I see you, and I know what race you are.” Since she can’t distinguish Jews by looking, they’re white. Of course, that’s an ignorant and offensive belief to many, but it got worse. When Colbert tried to inform her that Nazi’s saw Jews as a different race. She said, “the Nazi’s lied.” Goldberg continued, “they had issues with ethnicity, not race, because most of the Nazis were white people, and most of the people they were attacking were white people.”

Goldberg acknowledged people were angry, and she’d never mention it again. She issued a Twitter apology and gave one on the show—finally acknowledging it was about race—but ABC wants Goldberg to reflect. Rumors are spreading that Goldberg is angry at ABC, feels humiliated, and is considering leaving after following their apology instructions and still earning a suspension.

Chris Harrison

When the woke mob came for Rachael Kirkconnell, a contestant on The Bachelor, during the season with the first black bachelor, Chris Harrison asked for grace. Unfortunately for Harrison, that was the beginning of his end. Rachel Lindsay, who had a discussion with Harrison on Extra, was particularly offended by Harrison’s commentary. She was “boiling inside,” when Harrison asked, in general, “who are you” to make demands of Kirkconnell?

Pictures emerged of Kirkconnell at an antebellum party, dubbed by the woke mob as a “pro-slavery party.” Other allegations of racism swirled, which led to a breakup between Kirkconnell and Matt James. After a reunion full of cringe and an absent Harrison, the couple eventually got back together.

Harrison, on the other hand, was let go even after receiving coaching from activist Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.

Gina Carano

GINA CARANO IN THE MANDALORIAN BY DISNEY PLUS

Gina Carano was one of the stars on Disney Plus’s hit show, The Mandalorian. From time to time, Carano’s tweets hinted her budding conservative leanings, from mocking the pronoun police to voicing displeasure about covid policies. According to Carano, Lucasfilm stopped contact after she failed to apologize to the LGBT community in their approved manner. They were probably looking for an out, and they found it in a tweet referencing the Holocaust. Carano’s point was neighbors turning on each other for differing views can lead down a dark path. Lucasfilm misrepresented Carano and accused her of “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.”

Carano found out she was let go the same time as everyone else. Luckily for her, a Jewish man immediately recruited the actress. Carano is currently working with Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire on a film project.

Rosanne Barr

Roseanne ABC

When Roseanne returned to the air as a blue-collar Trump supporter, it returned as a hit show. Despite its high ratings, it was quickly canceled after an offensive tweet directed toward former Obama administration adviser, Valerie Jarrett. “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”

Roseanne defended her tweet, explaining “Muslims r NOT a race.” She later apologized and deleted it. Comparing black people to apes is obviously a huge no-no, but Barr claimed she didn’t know Jarrett was black. Whether she was insulting Jarrett’s looks or making a malicious racist comment, Barr was deeply criticized and apologized. That didn’t stop ABC from getting rid of the ratings’ titan. The rest of the cast signed onto another show, and The Conners was born.

James Gunn

James Gunn was the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the most obscure Marvel cinematic films. He directed the sequel but was fired after Mike Cernovich dug up some of Gunn’s old tweets involving pedophilia. They were abhorrent jokes, and Gunn apologized, claiming he has changed. The cast of the film stood up for Gunn in an open letter, but Disney still let him go.

Gunn was a targeted scalp after director Mark Duplass suggested people on the left should follow people like Ben Shapiro and have conversations. The Twitter mob began to attack, but James Gunn defended Duplass, even though he thought Shapiro was an “a**hole” who shouldn’t even be followed by his own mother. Once Duplass apologized for his initial tweets of civility, users began the hunt for tweets from Duplass and Gunn.

Mutual Destruction

Cancel culture activists argue cancel culture doesn’t actually exist. It’s an “accountability culture.” Conservative commentators on the right, like Ben Shapiro, have spoken out against it. He did come to the defense of Gunn, even though Gunn supported firing Roseanne Barr. “Roseanne is allowed to say whatever she wants. It doesn’t mean @ABCNetwork needs to continue funding her TV show if her words are considered abhorrent.”

But Carano was later canceled, and access media even tried to frame the narrative as if Carano was fired for being a bad employee. Then, Chris Harrison was next. Well, now Ben Shapiro is suggesting mutually assured destruction is the only path forward. It’s the only way for the world to finally wake up and realize cancel culture is awful.

The suspension is certainly a dose of karma for Whoopie, after expressing Spotify should do something about Joe Rogan. In a discussion about Rogan’s podcast, Joy Behar stood up for free speech while Whoopie questioned if Spotify bears responsibility in dealing with “misinformation.” She even suggested a fine, but other women on the panel said they were satisfied with disclaimers.

But as Piers Morgan pointed out, who received the wrath of the woke police after questioning Meghan Markle, Goldberg spread misinformation more offensive than anything Rogan is talking about.

Some defenders of Goldberg are saying it isn’t fair to suspend her while Rogan enjoys his $100M (perhaps more) contract from Spotify. Well, I’d argue bringing on experts to discuss current events and science as it evolves isn’t worse than denying historical facts regarding the Holocaust.
