Disney Declares War on Parental Rights

The Walt Disney Company has declared war on parents, their primary investors who have made them billions of dollars. After much debate and being berated by a fraction of their LGBTQ+ employees and other activists, the company was suckered into taking a stand against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill. Democrat opposition has labeled the bill “Don’t Say Gay,” even though the bill doesn’t single out homosexuality at all. The media has been more than happy to spread this propaganda.

At first, Disney CEO Bob Chapek issued a memo to the company, pledging to change hearts and minds by telling inclusive stories. He said, “I firmly believe that our ability to tell such stories—and have them received with open eyes, ears, and hearts—would be diminished if our company were to become a political football in any debate.”

Of course, Chapek was correct in his initial response. Conservative Disney employees wrote in a joint letter that, “as this politicization makes its way into our content and public messaging, our more conservative customers will feel similarly unwanted. You can only preach at or vilify your audience for so long before they decide to spend their money elsewhere.” They also pointed out that, “Disney shouldn’t be a vehicle for one demographic’s political activism. It’s so much bigger and more important than that. More than ever, the world needs things we can unite around. That’s the most valuable role The Walt Disney Company could play in the world at this time.”

Unfortunately, queer writer of The Owl House, Dana Terrace, thought Chapek’s words were “flowery,” and spoke about her moral dilemma of making cartoons to feed herself and working for a company that won’t come out against the Parental Rights Bill. Writer Benjamin Siemon posted a video, stating he was hurt and wanted Disney to actively stop the legislation.

Well, Disney caved to the pressure. They released a statement but weren’t even brave enough to even refer to HB 1557 by its real name. “Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that.”

Disney is making a commitment to destroy legislation that: “adopt procedures for notifying a student’s parent if there is a change in the student’s service or monitoring related to the student’s mental, emotional, or physical health or well-being and the school’s ability to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for the student.”

It also bans “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity that may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

Interestingly enough, this is a losing issue. A recent Florida Democratic primary poll showed voters support the GOP’s “Parental Rights” bill by 52-36%. It’s easy to get support from parents when you’re honest about the language of the bill. It turns out, parents don’t want their 5-8-year-old children learning about sexual orientation and gender identity in the classroom. The Daily Wire also conducted a poll and received overwhelming support of it.

I’d wager many people who profess to be against the “Don’t Say Gay” bill have fallen prey to media propaganda. However, Disney is a multi-billion-dollar company and there’s no way they haven’t read through seven pages and weighed their options.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis scolded Disney. “And when you have companies that have made a fortune off being family-friendly and catering to families and young kids, you know, they should understand that parents of young kids do not want this injected into their kids’ kindergarten classroom.”

When DeSantis signed the bill today, January Littlejohn told her story about how school officials manipulated her daughter to transition. They secretly had meetings with her daughter, having conversations about which bathrooms she would use and what bedrooms she would bunk in during overnight trips.

There have been other heartbreaking stories, including a father who found his daughter about to hang herself. Her school in Clay County tried to secretly “affirm” her gender as well.

If Disney is taking a stance that other adults should be teaching children about sexual orientation and identity, parents should question whether this company can be trusted inside their homes. I have no doubt their employees couldn’t be bothered to read a bill only seven pages long, but the company knows better.

It is not too late for Disney to retract their statement, apologize, and inform its vocal employees of the literal language of the bill. They won’t do that unless parents take a stand against Disney. If they do not feel the outrage in their pocketbooks and at the ballot box, they will flex their billion-dollar machine to uplift activists who openly want to pervert your children and taint their innocence.

Whether it’s canceling Disney Plus, not supporting the next Marvel film, or saying goodbye to Obi-Wan and Baby Yoda, let your rage be known or the mouse will continue down this dark road.
