The Perspective of the Serpent

Last week, a Youtube commenter said, “Stop using religion as an excuse for meddling in other people’s choices. Nothing in your behavior reflects Jesus. Only Satan suggested that people should have their choices taken away.”

This comment highlights one of the many reasons why I decided to make an abortion book that featured not only biology, philosophy, rights, history, etc., but I largely focus on theology. Regardless of what I say, I will be accused of having a religious view and then have my beliefs misrepresented by unbelievers. So, here is an excerpt of, Of Course, God Is Blatantly Against Abortion:

Ministers from Light Bearers Ministry had a fascinating discussion about Satan’s greatest weapon in his arsenal: his ability to deceive. “Genesis 3 is, in so many ways, the story of the first deception and the first victimization, but it’s not a victimization of control. It’s not of power or of strength. It’s of manipulation—psychological deception.” The serpent unleashes what they call a “tripod of deception,” which leads to the fall of mankind (Video below, starting at 24:35).

The serpent introduced the idea that Eve had restricted freedom. The serpent asks, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” He made it seem like she had a tiny bit of freedom when the opposite was true. There was only one tree God commanded them not to eat from.

The serpent introduced the idea that God was untrustworthy. The serpent told Eve she would not die if she partook of the fruit, planting the idea God was lying to her, trying to control and manipulate her.

The serpent introduced the reason God was being deceptive and alleged God was looking out for himself, rather than acting out in their best interest. The serpent told Eve God was withholding the fruit because if she partook of it, she would be like God. He makes God self-serving and threatened rather than protecting and loving.

It was not until these deceptions took root that Adam and Eve sinned against God and broke his commandments.

An abortion ban is not a restriction on a woman’s “reproductive freedom.” She has many other options: celibacy, birth control, fertility tracking, condoms, and sterilization. If she becomes pregnant, she has adoption, safe harbor laws, or the choice to mother her child. Denying abortion as an option is not a lack of freedom. That is the perspective of the serpent.

If you can terminate the life of an innocent child—made in the image of God—based on your insufficiencies as a human instead of trusting God as your source, you have the perspective of the serpent.

If you agree with Stacey Abrams and believe a restriction on abortion access is rooted in “cruelty and meanness,” rather than compassion and love for all parties involved, you have the perspective of the serpent.

The Bible says the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).  When a woman is faced with hard pink lines—full of anxiety—the devil doesn’t emerge from a puff of smoke and command you to give up your baby via ritual sacrifice. He’s cunning, and at times, very subtle. How are you going to pay for a baby? What will your parents think? What will the church members say? You’re not ready for this! You can barely take care of yourself. He’ll leave you if you keep this baby. How can you raise a child alone?

Satan is the accuser, and he’ll accuse you of being ill-equipped, ill-prepared, and even incapable of loving your child. He will tempt you to fall into sin, and then use that sin to call you unworthy of God’s love and forgiveness.

The devil is a liar.

In a woman’s limited wisdom, she may conclude abortion is the best decision, for her and her child, at the time. But that’s the problem. Our wisdom is limited. You can’t possibly know. You can make whatever justifications to convince yourself that you made the right call. After all, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,” (Proverbs 12:15). But the foolishness of God is wiser than even the wisest human (1 Corinthians 1:25).

It’s okay to not know what’s going to happen today. It’s okay to not know what’s going to happen tomorrow. But one thing is certain; God is sovereign, he is just, and he is a loving God. Your heavenly father knows all that you have need of, and he can more than meet those needs. But it is important to first seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness. And after you do that, all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:25-34).

When Jesus told the Pharisees they were of their father, the devil, he said, “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies,” (John 8:44).

Do you believe God is strong enough, great enough, wise enough, and loving enough to help you through your time of need? If you knew God, you would trust him. And if you understood the character of the deceiver, you would flee from temptation as fast as possible and reject every lie from his lips.

If you are a woman who had an abortion, know that Jesus died on the cross not only for the liars, drunkards, adulterers, fornicators, etc. He also died on the cross for the sin of your abortion. Women should not hold onto their guilt and shame forever. We are all sinners in need of a savior.

If you’re a Bible-believing Christian, abortion is never the answer. Jesus is the answer, and he came to give us life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). So, I implore you to choose life.

If you are a pro-choice and self-identified “Christian,” you make that choice knowing it is antithetical to God’s holy word. You can’t love God and openly reject who he is and his commandments. You’d be serving an idol of your own making; not worshiping the one true God. The only “choice” to make is to “choose you this day whom ye will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” (Joshua 24:15, KJV).

For it is abundantly clear, God is blatantly against abortion.
