Joe Biden Accidentally Made the Best Point About Abortion During the Presidential Debate

Abortion is the top priority of the Democratic Party, so when President Joe Biden fumbled this topic during his debate with former President Donald Trump, panic ensued. Biden defended Roe v. Wade while inaccurately describing what the ruling did. He claimed Roe v. Wade doesn’t allow for late-term abortions and Democrats don’t support them, which is absolutely not true. His worst moment was when he began to reason—incoherently—that women need access to abortion because they may be raped by the illegal aliens crossing our border, by their in-laws, spouses, brothers, and their sisters. Yes, by their sisters.

But within Biden’s web of lies and confusion was a profound kernel of truth. Biden chastised Donald Trump for wanting abortion to be left up to the states. “The idea that states are able to do this is a little like saying we’re gonna turn civil rights back to the states. ‘Let each state have a different rule.’”

Biden’s way of thinking is twisted. He’s arguing it should be a fundamental right for a woman to kill her preborn child, and that right should not be hindered on a state-by-state basis. That’s horrific. Our founding documents state that we are endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights, the first is “Life.” Governments are formed to secure these rights, so Biden is not living up to his purpose by not protecting the most vulnerable living humans among us.

Arguing that states should be able to decide their abortion laws state by state is a little bit like arguing states should have the right to decide whether they’re going to allow slavery or not. In both cases, they decide what kind of human beings are “persons” based on descriptive characteristics rather than our shared human nature. We realized something was very evil about slavery. Why are we so blind about this issue? Whether or not you can be deliberately killed in a premeditated fashion should not change when you cross a border.

Trump called the Democrats “radicals” for supporting policies that allow killing babies in the ninth month, ripping babies from the womb, and even killing them after birth while referencing disturbing comments by former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. Restoring Roe v. Wade would allow states to have no restrictions on abortion if that’s what the state desired. Under Roe v. Wade, states couldn’t even protect the preborn at fifteen weeks. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization came to the Supreme Court and overturned Roe because Mississippi passed a fifteen-week ban. The reality is most Americans wouldn’t support Roe v. Wade if they understood the ruling. A Harvard-Harris poll found a majority of Americans don’t want abortions past fifteen weeks. And despite constant talking points from the Left, the data shows that women who have late-term abortions are not always or even usually for tragic circumstances. Women have abortions later in pregnancy, generally, for the same reasons they have them earlier.

But the reality of the new Republican “leave it to the states” philosophy means that states are allowed to rip babies from the womb in the ninth month as well. If a state chooses to outlaw abortion, that’s great. However, women still cross state lines for their abortions or get abortion pills, and Trump has vowed not to make any legislation regarding them. Two-thirds of abortions are done with an abortion pill, which causes the embryo or fetus to be cut off from oxygen and nutrients until it suffocates and starves to death.

Imagine for a moment that your state wanted to make a ballot initiative that allowed for Asians to be gunned down. Do you think your state should be allowed to make that decision? So why should a state be allowed to decide that a doctor can tear a baby’s arms and legs off, crush their skull, and suck out their guts? If you don’t believe certain humans should be granted special murder rights to kill other humans, then you should not support elective-induced abortions.

Biden and the Democrats have great conviction in their beliefs, and they fight for abortion rights in every state, protected by the federal government. Republicans have historically protected Life. The 2016 and current GOP platform says, “Accordingly, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to children before birth.” There is chatter now that the GOP platform may soften its pro-life language and be more inclusive to the LGBT community. Perhaps it will say, “safe, legal, and rare” like Hillary Clinton’s old position. President Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council is sounding the alarm, urging Republicans to paint in bold colors instead of pale pastels, as President Ronald Reagan once said.

If Republicans choose to abandon social issues that inspire conservatives and Christians to engage, volunteer, and vote for them, that’s a tremendous gamble. Republicans won’t win elections by acting like Democrats, especially Democrats from the 1800s.
